My name is Blake Johnson and I am the founder of Blake’s Makes, a custom design-build woodshop specializing in furniture, personalized home goods, and wall art.
I have been a craftsman at heart ever since my favorite toy in preschool was the wooden block set.
My true appreciation for wood started when I built myself a desk while pursing an engineering degree at Oregon State University. After earning a degree in Construction Engineering Management I began working as a Project Engineer in the commercial construction industry. During this time I was fortunate enough to work with amazing engineers, architects, designers, and tradesmen on complex projects including a luxury high rise apartment building.
My experience in the construction industry opened my eyes to a variety of design approaches toward creating something that is both functional and beautiful, and the precision and expertise of master tradesmen in multiple trades.
I have taken what I’ve learned in the construction industry into my woodworking where I strive to design and build handcrafted, functional, art.
I founded Blake’s Makes in 2020 with the vision of bringing handcrafted functional art into your everyday lives.

Blake’s Makes was founded upon a love of combining the beautiful characteristics of natural wood with modern materials such as steel and epoxy to create one of a kind pieces of functional art that will be passed down generations.
The natural characteristics of wood – the grain, the figure, the color, the smell - fascinate me and I strive to continue to push the boundaries of what is possible while maintaining strong structural integrity in my pieces.
I take pride in my work and find that the most satisfaction from my work comes when delivering a high quality, unique, one-of-a-kind piece to the customer and I get to feel their emotions of awe and gratitude.
